Saturday night was unbelievable. Indescribable. After 20 looooong weeks, it was finally time to find out the gender of our Sweet Pea. Words will never convey the thrill and excitement we felt, but you can certainly catch a small glimpse of our enthusiasm in the video. It was undoubtedly the greatest moment of our lives so far.
Here’s how it all went down…
Remember the Fetal Growth Study? During our 18 wk checkup, we asked our awesome ultrasound techs to write down the gender of Baby C on index cards and seal them in 2 envelopes. We took the first envelope to a local baker, where we had them create a gender cake for an end of summer cookout we were throwing. If the card had “boy” on it, the icing on the inside of the cake would be blue. If the index card said “girl”, the baker was instructed to put pink icing on the inside… that way, we could cut into the cake and find out the sex of this precious mexican jumping bean in my belly along with the rest of our guests.
Since my parents live in NC and couldn’t attend the cookout, I gave them the second envelope last week and told them they were free to open it at any time, as long as they didn’t tell Andy and I what the results were. My parents were so bummed that they couldn’t be there to see our reactions in person, they went out and bought a webcam and set up SKYPE to get a live feed of the action. You will notice in the video that I’m talking to my Mom, Dad, and Grandma through the computer sitting on the counter.
The video basically speaks for itself, but if you’re wondering why i’m completely dumbfounded throughout the process and repeating the same sentance over and over again, it’s because I was nervous with 30 people in the room and a camera in front of my face 99.9% sure that I was having the complete opposite of what I’m actually having. Needless to say, I was in utter shock. (And a bit emotional, you know how pregnant women can be! ;) You’ll also notice me continuously asking the computer (aka Mom, Dad, and Gma) “is it really a…” because I wasn’t convinced that the cake was telling me the truth and they were the only ones who knew if we were having a boy or girl.
It’s truly amazing how quickly life changed for the two of us in a matter of seconds. We are so blessed!
