the wilmington greek festival

thursday night. leave it to us to choose the hottest day of the week to meet up with friends at an outdoor greek festival. there were 12 of us total… some drove in from philadelphia, some from new jersey… it was fun to catch up over plates full of spanokopita, lamb and orzo, souvlaki, pastichio, mousaka, dolmades, rice pudding, greek salad… i could go on for days. you name it, we ate it.

there were vendors everywhere. luckily (for andy), our group was so large that i didn’t have time to shop.

wanna hear something really cheesy? because i am so in love with this incredible greek dessert, andy calls me his “little loukoumades”, meaning little honey ball. my face lit up when i went through the camera after we got home and came across this picture that he took.

as we were standing in line (FOR 25 MINUTES) to purchase a bowl of loukoumades, we noticed that the wind was quickly picking up, the sky suddenly turned an eerie shade of gray, and a nervous buzz swept over the crowd. we received a phone call with the message that golf ball sized hail were headed our way and that we should start walking home. we made it across the street before the bottom dropped out and we had to find shelter. poor andy ran home in the pouring rain so he could grab the car and pick us up.

look at all that rain!
needles to say, i’m still pouting… we left without getting any loukoumades. hmmmp.
andy’s convinced i’ll head back over to the church today to get some… and he’s probably right.
