life in delaware.
hagley fireworks
christmas aside, fireworks at hagley is my absolute favorite night of the year. hagley fireworks has been a long-standing tradition in the carmine family, and i’ve been lucky enough to join in on the fun since we moved to philadelphia in 2004.

madeline likes to ‘pull her weight’… hahaa in this case, her weight x’s 10! similar to her parents, our sweet girl is extremely independent and always wants to help out. she a strong one, but still loves to makes these hilarious grunting noises as if everything is soooooo heavy.

the fireworks presentation- described as “a pyrotechnic masterpiece that weaves together a story illustrated through music, narration, aerial shells, and intricate set pieces”- is a spectacle in itself. but this evening is so much more than that.
a members-only event, hagley museum opens their grounds (an old gunpowder mill established by the prominent dupont family) to family and friends for the night to celebrate delaware’s rich history.

this celebration includes lots of food, adult beverages… people go all out! there is also a DJ, a ‘kid central’ area with bouncy house, slides, and games, an auto show, and a fireworks fairy.

the raffle prizes tent. for the 4th year in a row, we won some incredible prizes. this year, andy and i took home a free family portrait sitting with a local photographer, pampering at a salon (full head of highlights/color, hair cut, & blow dry), and a $100 gift certificate to our favorite florist in town. we were so excited, we couldn’t stop high-fiving!

this year’s theme was “in war and peace- celebrating the 150th anniv of the civil war and highlighting the role of the explosives industry in our nation’s history”.
as always, it was a show-stopping, jaw-dropping experience.
i’m already counting down the days until next year…
