my “to do” list
so while i may not have anything left to do to get ready for charlie, i still have “to do” lists.
my favorite “to do” list right now is my things to get done before charlie arrives list.
this is a running list of items that i’ve been promising myself i’d do for the last few months but just haven’t gotten around to for one reason or another. now that our schedules have cleared up a bit, i feel less guilty about focusing on my fun little projects. this is my version of nesting, i guess… i’m a creative person with big ideas and i’m excited to see what i can accomplish over the next few weeks.
1. baby blanket the first item on my list is to make madeline a blanket. about 6 months ago, as i was packing away madeline’s NB-12months clothes, i came across a huge stack of outfits/onesies that were ruined by stains. i knew i wouldn’t use them again if we have another girl and they were too gross to donate, but i just couldn’t bear the thought of throwing them away… so i grabbed a pair of scissors and started cutting. i now have a huge stack of fabric squares that i’m hoping to turn into a baby blanket. my goal is to give it to her when we leave for the hospital to deliver charlie. i’ll definitely keep you all posted on my progress.
2. brag books i made a brag book as a gift for my father-in-law at ritz camera a while back. it was easy to create and so much fun to design that i’ve decided to make all of the grandparents their own little brag books to carry around. hopefully, i’ll make this a tradition and as the years go by, our parents will have volumes of brag books for each year of their grandbabies lives.
3. FAQ’s i get a lot of questions in my inbox regarding things people see/read about on tupelo honey. i don’t normally post messages on this blog, but i’m about to answer some of the ?’s i get the most. if there’s something you want to know, now’s the time to ask (<— click to ask)!
4. hanging plates i’ve been collecting dessert plates for the last several years, not knowing what to do with them. most plates were purchased from tj maxx, marshalls, or a thrift store, but i love them. i went and ordered these wireless plate hangers and stuck them to the back of the plates, now i just need to hang them on the only blank wall in our dining room.
5. madeline’s baby book (i hang my head in shame as i type this) i am embarrassed at the amount of empty pages in madeline’s baby book. MUST.FINISH.BABY.BOOK.
6. become martha stewart ok, not really. i don’t even like martha stewart, but i love the people who work for her and design all these cute baby items. my goal is to make something-ANYTHING- on this site for handcrafted baby gifts. i’m looking at you stuffed animals, wooden blocks, bath apron, and handkerchief nursery pillows!
7. photo albums you know how people ask you what you would grab if your house caught on fire and you could only take like, 3 items with you? i would definitely grab our collection of photo albums. a few years ago, i bought every black cloth photo album i could get my hands on (similar to this one, only wider). they sit on a bookshelf in our dining room, filled to the brim with our favorite photos in chronological order, starting from the day andy and i met through now new year’s eve ski trip ‘10. WHOOPS. i have a lot of catching up to do! every year, usually after i get my christmas bonus, i renew my ritz camera frequent foto club membership and purchase (at a discount d/t FF club membership) 3-5 prepaid photo developing cards in quantities of 300 and 500. it’s a huge investment- around $200- but it saves me money in the long run. if something were to ever happen to our computers (AND external hard drives AND backup cds), at least i know we have our trusty photo albums full of priceless memories to look back on. besides, photo albums are awesome!
8. house tour i’ve received a few requests asking to see what our house looks like. it’s nothing fancy, i promise… but it’s ours (for now) and we adore it. i’ll take some snapshots over the next few days (probably on sunday, right after we get the house clean for my parents visit on monday) and then post them here.
9. yard sale! i’m almost certain that this will never happen, but i’m trying to figure out how to pay for my dream stroller and this is the best idea i’ve come up with so far. if you have creative ways to raise money, send them my way!!!
so there you have it, my most recent “to do” list. i posted this more as a reminder to myself, but if any of these ideas sound like fun projects to you, make sure you share your process with me!
